Submitted by Youth of the Florida Conference of the United Church of Christ to the Annual Meeting of the Florida Conference of the United Church of Christ, May 3, 2008

Whereas over 90 youth of the Florida Conference of the United Church of Christ gathered in Vero Beach from as far north as Jacksonville and Gainesville to as far south as Bal Harbour and Coral Gables for the Second Annual “...And Justice For All!” Fall Youth Retreat; and

Whereas we are a people of faith seeking justice and equity; and

Whereas we recognize the ongoing human rights crisis in Florida’s agricultural fields and the travesties brought about by those corporations and industries which exploit Florida’s farm workers and denying their needs;

Therefore let it be resolved that the Florida Conference of the United Church of Christ reiterates our commitment to strengthen the national movement for farm worker justice and “fair food”; and

Be it further resolved that our congregations and their members take action against businesses that practice or condone unfair labor conditions; and

Be it further resolved that our congregations and their members actively support businesses that do employ fair labor practices; and

Be it further resolved that our congregations be encouraged to sign on to the Alliance for Fair Food, a network of human rights, religious, student, labor and grassroots organizations which work in partnership with the Coalition of Immokalee Workers to promote principles and practices of socially responsible purchasing in the corporate food industry that advance and ensure the human rights of farmworkers at the base of the corporate supply chains.
